Season are Changing, Brains are Turning

Wow, we are nearing the end of term one as we are nearing Winter break next week! It certainly does not feel like 3 months have gone by since the start of the school year. But here we are!

I want to express my gratitude for many things so far this school year. Division 4 students have worked tremendously hard and has put in a lot of effort in their learning this term. They have been very engaged in our classroom activities and I love that they are always curious and open minded about different topics. Big thanks to all the support you provide for their learning at home, I know there was a lot of evenings that consisted of homework, assignments, and science projects!

I also want to thank all those students that have taken on many responsibilities already this year such as lunch monitoring, office monitoring, and patrol. I also know there will be other opportunities coming up such as a library helper. You play an important leadership role in the school and it has really shown your ability to be accountable and responsible for the job you signed up for! Great job.

Congratulations to all those that participated in Cross Country and Volleyball as well! I was lucky enough to coach the Girls volleyball team this year, they showed so much progress in their skill development and their passion for the game was next to none! I also got to watch and a lot of the boys volleyball team as well, they showed some incredible growth in their fundamentals. I hope that students in Division 4 continue to join in different sports and clubs, as that is an excellent way to develop leadership skills and be involved with the school. For those that joined this year, way to represent Nelson, you all did amazing!

Around the school, there were many events in term 1, including our annual Pumpkin Patch, hot cocoa (Thanks to PAC), Terry Fox run, Remembrance Day Assembly, Truth & Reconciliation Day, Indoor Track, Pancake Breakfast, and many more. By the way, the code word is Rudolph.

We will certainly end the last week of school with a lot of fun events and activities, before we head off for Winter Break.

Reminders

I also wanted to take this opportunity to remind students and parents about the use of social media. As technology becomes more prevalent in our daily lives, students should be reminded of their responsibilities as a digital citizen.

Our class had a conversation about digital literacy, social media, and choices we make online. For parents, this is a great opportunity for you to review internet safety with the students as well. Social media and the internet can be a fantastic place for learning and information, however, we also need to be mindful about our digital footprint. We need to remember that just as we are kind and respectful students at school and in-person, we have to be even more so online if we are communicating with others on social platforms.

Once again, I appreciate all the students' hard work and all the support they receive at home. I can't wait to get term 2 under away and be able to facilitate more exciting activities for our class.

I hope everyone has a Happy Holidays!
